Research Interests
Adult stem cells are a fascinating area of research, being of great relevance to the fields of regeneration and cancer modeling, and are key substrates in the investigation of essential cell properties such as self-renewal, proliferation and differentiation capabilities. My research activity will focus on the immortal DNA strand mechanism postulated to confer mutagenesis resistance to adult stem cells and which may even confer adult stem cell identity. I will also be investigating potential epigenetic mechanisms involved in the switch between symmetric and asymmetric cell division kinetics using an engineered mouse cell line that controls the activity of the tumor suppressor factor p53. In general, my principal areas of interest are stem cell and cancer biology.
