Postdoctoral trainees make a vital contribution to BBRI's intellectual environment. It is primarily through them that the research faculty carries out their educational mission by passing on their scientific insights and research expertise to a younger generation of scientists. At the same time, inquisitive young scientists can bring new perspectives to a research problem and can lead their mentors' research programs into innovative directions. In order to attract outstanding doctoral candidates to BBRI, the Institute established in 1997 the prestigious position of BBRI Scholar, which is awarded competitively to the best postdoctoral applicants.
