Blout Program Overview
Boston Biomedical Research Institute's Dr. Elkan R. Blout Distinguished Israeli Biomedical Research Program is named for Dr. Elkan R. Blout, who was a former Trustee of the Institute and a renowned scientific leader. He had a distinguished career in academic and commercial research in addition to government service, and was considered one of the outstanding experts in biological sciences. Dr. Blout was truly a "scientific ambassador", nurturing scientists in the U.S., Israel and throughout the world. Dr. Blout had a special relationship with friend and colleague Ephraim Katchalski-Katzir, the fifth president of Israel, with whom he served on the Board of Governor's of the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. Dr. Blout was awarded the United States National Medal of Science in 1990 for "devotion to the scientific enterprise of this nation".
Taking Dr. Blout's example of mentoring and collaborating with partners both in and out of Israel, the groundbreaking Blout Program involves U.S and Israeli scientists and entrepreneurs working together for mutual benefit. The Blout Program will foster growth in Israel's biomedical industry and Boston Biomedical Research Institute's creative environment.
There are three program components: a lecture series in Boston, a post-doctoral fellowship award to bring Israeli scientist to Boston, and a sabbatical to send Boston scientist to Israel.
