Legislators Visit the New Adult Stem Cell Technology Center at Boston Biomedical Research Institute06/16/2010

Watertown, MA - On June 10, Boston Biomedical Research Institute hosted the Biotech Caucus, a group composed of legislators and lay participants interested in biotechnology coordinated by MassBio. The Director of the Adult Stem Cell Technology Center, Dr. James Sherley, presented his innovative adult stem cell technologies and led a conversation about Governor Patrick's $1 billion plan to grow the life sciences industry in Massachusetts. This was followed by a tour of the Adult Stem Cell Technology Center, which is based at the Boston Biomedical Research Institute and partners with life science companies to advance adult stem cell-based medical therapies. Partnerships between the Adult Stem Cell Technology Center and life sciences companies will generate new jobs and increase life science business in Massachusetts. Members of the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies attended along with others interested in growing the Massachusetts economy. Present were: Representative Corey Atkins, Representative Jonathan Hecht, Representative Kevin Honan, Representative Peter Koutousian, Representative Michael Rodrigues, Watertown Councilor Cecilia Lenk, and Peter Abair, Imran Nasrullah and Chris Dowd from the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council.
