Core Facilities

BBRI’s labs are set in a modern 60,000 sq.ft. facility which was specially designed in 2000 to foster interactive and collaborative science.  There are no walls between labs.  On each floor there are common spaces for interaction, offices for scientists, labs and core equipment space.

One of BBRI’s many strengths is its state-of-the-art instruments.  Over the years BBRI has been successful in getting shared instrumentation grants from federal agencies and raising philanthropic funds to purchase equipment.  This is primarily because of the collaborative nature of the Institute.  Not only is a given instrument here used by a large number of scientists, but sharing it also fosters great synergism among the users.

The recent successful completion of The Kresge Foundation Science Initiative Challenge Campaign enabled us to establish a Cell Biology Core Facility, which adds two more useful tools to our list – the flow cytometer and the confocal microscope.
